Kinesiology taping available trackside and non-trackside

Who wants to improve their race performance, despite carrying an injury? Who wants to recover quicker after a race, so they can train harder?

Who wants both?

Can we tell you a story? Over 70% of the clients we work with, have never used kinesiology taping and over 90% of our client’s don’t even know what it does!

So, in this blog, we’re going to give you the low down of what kinesiology taping is and why YOU should be taking advantage of it!

Kinesiology tape is an elasticated and stretchy cotton strip, which has a sticky, acrylic adhesive on the back. It comes in a variety of colours and widths.  Kinesiology tape mimics human skin in terms of thickness and flexibility, meaning the tape does not constrict circulation or restrict your bodies movement. Kinesiology tape is very strong and is applied at different tensions’, depending on what area of the body you’re using it on.

With most of our riders, kinesiology taping is used to provide musculo-skeletal stabilisation. Muscle instability often occurs as a result of injuries sustained through crashing, failure to warm up prior to a race or through overtraining. Kinesiology taping can also be used to improve muscle tone, move lymphatic fluids (more on this is future blogs), increase muscle tone and to improve your posture.

The major benefit of using kinesiology tape is that even under strong muscular contraction (i.e. during a race) the tape not only stabilises the damaged muscles in the correct anatomical position, but it also allows your muscles to have a full range of movement (so there’s no excuses not to try and get your knee AND elbow down!). This means that the injury is less likely to re-occur and you can still ride your bike to your full potential.

Using kinesiology tape after a massage also increases the effectiveness of the treatment. This is because it gives the muscles and ligaments a chance to rebuild and restore, by taking the pressure off the muscles that have been worked on by the massage therapist.

To get the best out of using kinesiology tape, it is essential that it administered by a professional, who has a background in kinesiology, anatomy and physiology. Taping yourself is NOT easy and is often done wrong – remember, your body is important to your racing career, so take care of it by going to a professional.

Here at Full Throttle, we offer professional kinesiology taping both trackside and at our base in Debenham. What’s even better is our kinesiology taping starts at ONLY £10! Good or what?
